United States House of Representatives Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (pictured) alleged on Wednesday that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is taking steps to “steal” a congressional seat won by Republican lawmaker Mariannette Miller-Meeks in Iowa’s 2nd congressional district.
In a contest against Democrat Rita Hart, Miller-Meeks won her district by a total of six votes in November 2020. Hart’s campaign claims that 22 “legally cast” votes in her favor were dismissed from the official count due “to election worker error.”
The House Administration Committee, which consists of six Democrats and three Republicans, will examine the case with no official deadline to reach a decision. The panel may rule to dismiss the case or to recommend unseating Miller-Meeks and holding a new election to fill the House seat.
