French government spokesman Gabriel Attal (pictured) said on Wednesday that decisions on new coronavirus-related restrictions in several regions in the country will be announced tomorrow, March 18 in an afternoon press conference held by Prime Minister Jean Castex and Health Minister Olivier Veran. Among the reportedly problematic regions is Ile-de-France, the area covering the nation’s capital, Paris.
“The epidemic situation is deteriorating,” Attal told reporters after a government meeting, adding that the virus incidence rate has increased “by nearly 20% in recent days” in the country.
The official also noted that AstraZeneca vaccine “data are reassuring” and that “the side effects are very rare,” while also confirming that France will resume vaccination with the shot as soon as European health authorities give its approval for the action.
